Ingredients 

Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 4 cups cabbage, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions 

  1. 1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. 2. Add flour, vegetable oil, and salt to the yeast mixture. Knead until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  3. 3. In a skillet, cook ground beef and onions until beef is browned and onions are soft. Add cabbage, salt, and pepper. Cook until cabbage is tender. Let it cool.
  4. 4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down dough and divide into 8 pieces. Roll each piece into a circle.
  5. 5. Place a generous amount of filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold dough over filling and pinch edges to seal.
  6. 6. Place bierocks on a baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
