Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 4 large Onions thinly sliced
  • 4 cups Beef broth
  • ½ cup Dry white wine optional
  • 2 tablespoon Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper to taste
  • 4 slices French baguette toasted
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese grated

Instructions 

  1. 1. Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. 2. Add the onions and cook until caramelized, about 25-30 minutes.
  3. 3. Stir in the sugar and cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. 4. Add the beef broth and wine, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. 5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. 6. Preheat the oven to broil.
  7. 7. Ladle the soup into oven-safe bowls, top with a slice of toasted baguette, and sprinkle with grated Gruyere cheese.
  8. 8. Place the bowls under the broiler until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 2-3 minutes.
