- 6 large onions thinly sliced
- 4 cups beef broth
- ¼ cup butter unsalted
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
- 1 cup gruyere cheese grated
- 6 slices baguette toasted
1. Melt butter in a pan over medium heat. Add onions and cook until caramelized, about 20 minutes.
2. Transfer onions to the slow cooker. Add beef broth, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
3. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
4. Preheat broiler. Ladle soup into oven-safe bowls, top with toasted baguette slices and grated gruyere cheese.
5. Broil until cheese is melted and bubbly, about 2-3 minutes. Serve hot.
