Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb Dried split peas
  • 1 lb Ham bone or diced ham
  • 1 Large onion, chopped
  • 2 Carrots, chopped
  • 2 Celery stalks, chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 8 cups Chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper to taste

Instructions 

  1. 1. Rinse the split peas under cold water.
  2. 2. In a large pot, combine all ingredients.
  3. 3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  4. 4. Remove the ham bone, chop any meat, and return to the pot.
  5. 5. Adjust seasoning to taste and serve hot.
