Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups split peas
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 medium carrots, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb ham hock
  • 8 cups chicken broth
  • 2 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper to taste

Instructions 

  1. 1. Rinse the split peas under cold water.
  2. 2. In a large pot, combine all ingredients.
  3. 3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours.
  4. 4. Remove ham hock, shred meat, and return to pot.
  5. 5. Adjust seasoning and serve hot.
